Korging

Having [not that] recently gotten myself a nice Korg Triton Rack: (and kitted out with various EXB-PCM sound modules; still wishing for an EXB-MOSS and EXB-SCSI!)

  • 12/04/2011 One Step Beyond (3) [24-2] (~6:49, 10.7 M) MPEG layer 3 format. Remixed version of One Step Beyond (2), still a little squelchy (might just be my not-sennheiser headphones)..
  • 12/03/2011 Triton Play (23-1) (~4:02, 5.6 M) MPEG layer 3 format. First proper attempt at getting something out of the Korg in a while. Second cut, still a bit quiet, but sounds better than the first recording!
  • 10/08/2007 TrancePlay1.mp3 (~5:21, 7.33 M) MPEG layer 3 format. Slightly better formatted trance-ish ditty. Not entirely happy about the end though, might chop that out and/or fix at some point.
  • 07/05/2007 TritonPlay2.mp3 (~3:43, 5.51 M) MPEG layer 3 format. Another ditty (still me bashing away on the keyboard).
  • 30/04/2007 TritonPlay1.mp3 (~3:11, 3.25 M) MPEG layer 3 format. Bit of a ditty, largely just me bashing away on the keyboard.

Tracking

Trackers and tracking rock. For many years (earliest timestamp is August 1994, just after my GCSEs), I've been messing around with trackers. Not many tunes have made it into the world though... What's on here is a start though. My tracking isn't very quick, so things will appear very slowly.. (and most of them are probably unfinished, but heyho. probably ??, definitely more like ;)).

My preferred player is MikMod. It's simple and it works. Win-Amp should be able to play modules as well. XMMS needs the MikMod plugin I think. After having listened to the IT module through Win-Amp, I'd suggest you don't. It can't get the pitches right -- winamp is broken. Apparently it should have better luck with the S3M version.

To handle the compatability issue, most of these are now emerging as MP3. Recent tunes are written using Sound-tracker, an excellent GTK-based tracker for Linux (and others), and encoded using lame.

  • 13/11/2007 CrystalWorlds.mp3 (~10:52) (12.95 M) MPEG layer 3 format. Done I think, other pre-versions removed.
  • 28/10/2007 Intro-pre1.mp3 (~1:20) (1.62 M) MPEG layer 3 format. Under construction (dragged out of the archives, needs more!).
  • 20/12/2006 JourneysEnd-pre1.mp3 (~1:15) (2.08 M) MPEG layer 3 format. Under construction.
  • 19/10/2006 FinalStep2.mp3 (~7:11) (9.61 M) MPEG layer 3 format. Mostly complete (inspired a bit by mindfuck of mentasm).
  • 09/08/2006 OddDitty-pre2.mp3 (~1:57) (2.38 M) MPEG layer 3 format. Under construction.
  • 09/08/2006 OddDitty-pre1.mp3 (~1:17) (1.52 M) MPEG layer 3 format. Under construction.
  • 24/07/2006 OrganThing-pre1.mp3 (~2:02) (2.62 M) MPEG layer 3 format. Mostly experimenting.
  • 24/07/2006 OneStepDitty-pre1.mp3 (~0:44) (0.81 M) MPEG layer 3 format. Mostly experimenting.
  • 12/06/2006 TheDarkness-pre1.mp3 (~2:12) (2.68 M) MPEG layer 3 format. Under construction.
  • 09/04/2006 Oddments.mp3 (~3:36) (4.62 M) MPEG layer 3 format. Mostly done, other pre's removed.
  • 22/09/2005 Overcurrents.mp3 (~5:19) (7.66 M) MPEG layer 3 format. Mostly done I think :-). (pre's removed).
  • 10/03/2005 WinterTale-pre3.mp3 (3:55~) (5.45 M) MPEG layer 3 format. Close, needs tidying at the beginning and end.
  • 27/02/2005 WinterTale-pre2.mp3 (3:48~) (5.23 M) MPEG layer 3 format. Close, just needs the choir-ish bits towards the end..
  • 23/01/2005 WinterTale-pre1.mp3 (2:49~) (4.09 M) MPEG layer 3 format. Under construction, but the general theme is there..
  • 20/11/2004 RainyDay-pre2.mp3 (5:08~) (6.44 M) MPEG layer 3 format. Mostly finished.
  • 12/11/2004 OneStepForever.mp3 (4:34~) (6.63 M) MPEG layer 3 format. Mostly finished, I think..
  • 29/08/2004 Pinball-pre2.mp3 (3:51~) (4.95 M) MPEG layer 3 format. Nearly complete, ending needs a bit more work; bit of a ditty.
  • 27/07/2004 Pinball-pre1.mp3 (3:06~) (3.85 M) MPEG layer 3 format. Nearly complete; bit of a ditty.
  • 18/07/2004 OneStepBetween-pre4.mp3 (~11:22) (15.7 M) MPEG layer 3 format. Mostly complete now. Other -pre's removed.
  • 14/12/2003 ForeverMusic.mp3 (~14:07) (18.49 M) MPEG layer 3 format. Done, pretty much. (-pre's removed)
  • 08/08/2003 FinalStep-pre1.mp3 (~0:56) (1.15 M) MPEG layer 3 format. Early beginnings.
  • 08/08/2003 TwoStepsBehind-pre3.mp3 (~3:15) (3.90 M) MPEG layer 3 format. Added some more, still a bit experimental..
  • 17/03/2003 MoonDance.mp3 (~6:30) (9.3 M) MPEG layer 3 format. Mostly finished :-). (-pre's removed)
  • 14/02/2003 WalkingHome.mp3 (~1:54) (1.75 M) MPEG layer 3 format. This is fred20-11, but slightly better :-). Nearly there now I think... Not particularly long, and the drums aren't exactly adventurous.
  • 01/01/2003 fred20-10.mp3 `Two steps behind' (~2:00) (1.86 M) MPEG layer 3 format. This one is very incomplete and has some contiunity issues. Also the last bit is somewhat experimental at the moment ;).
  • 29/09/2002 (updated, again..) fred20-2-1.mp3 `One step beyond' (~06:47) (6.21 M) MPEG layer 3 format.
A very nearly completed tune. Ending could do with a touch more work perhaps, but mostly done I think.. Similar to the one below (fred20-2), but includes the original beginning (thanks for reminding me Josh ;)). Rendered with interpolation as well, less hissy..
  • 25/06/2002 (updated, again..) fred20-2.mp3 (~05:22) (4.92 M) MPEG layer 3 format.
A very nearly completed tune. Ending could do with a touch more work perhaps, but mostly done I think..
  • 02/02/2002 fred11-2.it (00:05:22) (220.3 k) Impulse-Tracker format.
    02/02/2002 fred11-2.s3m (00:05:22) (262.0 k) Scream-Tracker 3 format.
    14/05/2002 fred11-2.mp3 (00:05:22) (4.9 M) MPEG layer 3 format.
    09/02/2002 fred11-2.xm (00:05:22) (186.0 k) Sound-Tracker / Fast-Tracker format. (converted with s3m2xm).
A mostly-completed tune. Some of the tune bits in the 2nd half could do with a bit more work and the ending is sort of missing, the the rest is mostly there. The samples were taken from Skaven's Night of the Cats, a fine module.
  • 18/01/2002 fred12-3.it (00:04:13) (445.4 k) Impulse-Tracker format.
    02/02/2002 fred12-3.s3m (00:04:13) (612.8 k) Scream-Tracker 3 format.
    14/05/2002 fred12-3.mp3 (00:04:13) (3.9 M) MPEG layer 3 format.
Another mostly completed tune. Sort of a canon in C minor. The middle still needs a bit of expanding with more harmony, the end could probably do with re-working as well (it's a bit boring). Tracked in around 9 hours with lots of coffee. Same sample-set as fred9-4. Released under the terms and conditions of the GNU General Public License. Enjoy. Update: fixed the ending a bit in the .it version (and the .s3m version now).
  • 27/08/2001 fred9-4.it (00:07:20) (451.2 k) Impulse-Tracker format.
    27/08/2001 fred9-4.s3m (00:07:20) (617.2 k) Scream-Tracker 3 format.
    14/05/2002 fred9-4.mp3 (00:07:20) (7.0 M) MPEG layer 3 format.
My first decent tune in quite a while (well, I think it's good, you judge for yourself). Sort of a bosh-symphony. I've shamelessly ripped samples from wherever I found them (most frequented ack'd in file). This is released under the terms and conditions of the GNU General Public License, to whatever extent it can apply (samples belong to their creators).

Of related interest is s3m2xm, that converts S3M (screamtracker) files to XM (fasttracker/soundtracker) files. There are also some tracking related links.
